Let’s Talk Turkey – Thanksgiving Tips

Nov 24, 2015

By Dean George

The Thanksgiving holiday can make for some interesting dinner conversations. Countless books and movies have been written about the stress of dining with relatives from different backgrounds where everyone finds themselves talking turkey over turkey about a wide range of subjects.

Whether the conversation centers on what a bunch of jive turkeys your cousin’s sports teams are or a relative’s unsuccessful efforts to kick a bad habit by going cold turkey, we pity the hosts that try to keep the family gathering happy and harmonious.

It’s always better to talk about gobbling up the savings at a favorite Black Friday sale and pass the pie rather than wander into the turkey shoot of politics, religion or if Aunt Bertha has had some work done.

So in honor of families everywhere working to keep their Thanksgiving celebration a war-free zone free of food fights and family feuding, here are some early holiday leftovers from our cupboard of Agent Straight-Talk blog posts:

You’re hosting Thanksgiving this year so your younger brother who is dating a vegan and your cousin twice removed but not far enough will only eat organic foods.  Grandma says grandpa is on a special low-fat diet and your great-Aunt Mabel has requested you make her favorite pie with special lactose-free milk that apparently is only available from a regional supermarket chain in Wyoming.

What does stress have to do with oral health? You may be surprised, as Felicia wrote about in…

A Short Guide to a Stress-free Holiday Season

In 1784 Ben Franklin, with tongue firmly in cheek wrote his married daughter Sally Bache of Philadelphia why he preferred the turkey as a symbol for America rather than the bald eagle.

Gobble Up These Healthy Thanksgiving Eats

One way folks exhibit stress is by gritting their teeth and clinching their jaw.  Dental professionals refer to this behavior as bruxism, not to be confused with the French name for Bruxelles, the capitol of Belgium. So what does bruxism have to do with the Wampanoag Indians at Plymouth Rock, Valley Forge and the Titanic? We tell you in…

Don’t Grit Your Teeth and Bare it

One of the best parts of Thanksgiving is the leftovers! Turkey sandwiches, turkey soup, turkey salad, turkey hash – someone please stop be before I begin drooling over my keyboard. If your grandparents were anything like mine they knew a thing or two about being thankful and how to make leftovers into a feast for a king. Don’t think of the next blog post as a leftover. Think of it as a rewind of a Thanksgiving leftover, which is why we called it…

Help for Young Dentists

June 4, 2020

The one constant during the COVID pandemic has been uncertainty, and that anxiety has been especially acute among dentists just beginning their careers.

“Newbie” dentists have been especially vulnerable to the shutdown due to student debt and the lack of resources available to those dentists as compared to those with returning patients and a few years of practical experience.

What two oral health companies are doing to help.
